Hi!
We have a serious issue with the MSI implemenation of IA.
When using it in for example SCCM the MSI reports that's it's finished way before the actual install process is finished.
For example we have a 700MB MSI file that packs out a huge 1GB file. If the user turns off the machine before it's finished installing, the SCCM will still report it as being installed because it has returned without error, but the install process might go on for 10-15 minutes more.
We have received lots of complaints on this especially from the big IT departments since they must do som much manual work because of this bug.
Anything to do about this ?

Dear User,
Yes, I checked your question ... please excuse me, but I missed to reply to you.
Unfortunately, it is a known limitation and It applies of course to the Group Policy MSI, and not the real MSI that does the actual installation.
Perhaps you could use our EXE to work around the issue instead ( ... I don't know if this could be applicable in you case). Our EXE quits only when it is really finished.
Otherwise, the other alternative is to use Direct Deploy Technology (available with IA 18).
It makes possible to Push any EXE file across an Active Directory network, without requiring any client or server software.
Hope this helps you.

Re: MSI ends before finished
What I dont understand is why InstallAware states that they are 100% compatible MSI files when they really are not.
We get a lot of questions from our customers why we don't use a "real" MSI file.
One of our MSI's are 700MB and it's quite likely that the user will shut down machine or something while this is installing in the background.
Do you have any plans of fixing this ?
Then IA would be perfect! Now it's irritating...

Dear David,
it is not a question of compatibility, because an MSI file can't be partially compatible, otherwise it doesn't work.
Of course we are studying a possible way to solve it, but at the moment I am not able to confirm any date.
