installation and upgrade

Postby programOne » Sat Jan 18, 2014 8:29 am

Hello, I have a problem with InstallAware not as resolved.

I have generated the installation of an application using InstallAware scripts.

The application is made up of modules, and during installation choose to allow modules you want to install. I mean, the idea is the same executable installation and upgrade of the same application is permitted. But the second time I run the installer all ee clears first installation installs the second configuration.

There are some parameters that you can configure, so I do not delete everything from the first installation?
Thank you for your help.

Dear User,

if I haven't missed your question and if you are executing a product update, the already installed application is first removed before the new package version can be installed. This is the default behavior with Windows Installer.

Probably, you should handle your modules as features and in this case, you can add or remove features in maintenance mode.

Otherwise, please try to post much more details about your package-module relation.

So if I put the NATIVE_ENGINE = true variable, not would follow the behavior of Windows Installer, it is so?

But if I do, what happens to the uninstall? NOT be performed automatically, ..?

thanks

Dear User,

The native engine is not intended to duplicate the Windows Installer engine.
Instead, it is designed to provide a faster, non-transactional alternative to the Windows Installer engine.

Of course the un-install process is still performed ... the great advantage, it is that you can take full control of the entire setup process.
It is also true that you need to develop any customized task that you want to include.

I may suggest to have a look at the available documentation and to start experimenting with it.
