Move from SQL Server 2005 Express to 2012 Doubles Size

Postby peter_ashworth » Wed Feb 05, 2014 6:27 am

Hi,

I may be doing something wrong but cannot see it at the moment. I have a InstallAware created installer that includes the runtimes for SQL Server 2005 Express SP4. I have just changed this, replacing SQL Server 2005 Express SP4 with SQL Server 2012 Express SP1. My installer size has doubled from just over 400MB to just over 800MB. Is this expected behaviour or am I doing something wrong? If expected then this is ok, I just need to know before I change our deployment strategy.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Peter,

Unfortunately, this is due by the SQL Server 2012 Express SP1 Runtime package file size and there isn't to much to do.

We just include the Original Runtime package distributed by Microsoft with our Runtime.

Thank you for your reply. This is not a problem. I just wanted to make sure I was not doing anything incorrect.
