Greetings,
I am trying to use a compiler variable in the script to include one file or another depending on the value of the variable. In Wise it prompted you for a value at compile time and then created the build, but I don't see the same functionality in InstallAware. Is there a way to have InstallAware prompt for the compiler variable value like Wise does? If not, then how to set the value in the IDE? (I tried Set Variable but that didn't work)
Thanks much!
Gary

Re: Prompt for compiler variables
Dear Gary,
You can define a compiler variable in the Project Setting dialog. Press SHIFT+CTRL+F11 - then select "Compiler Variables Node" from the left tree pane.

Re: Prompt for compiler variables
Thanks, but you didn't answer my question. Is there a way to supply a complier variable at compile time by selecting from a list of values prompted by the IDE as in Wise? If the only way to enter values for compiler variable values is by the node you suggested in your reply, that is so pathetic it's unbelievable. Wise was much better than this 15 years ago.

Re: Prompt for compiler variables
Dear Gary,
in reality I have already replied to your question, otherwise I would described how to select a compiler variable from a list prompted by the IDE.
Alternatively, you can use the MIABUILD command line tool. The tool allows to pass compiler variables with command line parameters.
Note;
if such option was available in WISE, What do it has to do with "IT IS PATHETIC"?
I can understand that you may consider such possibility as a very useful option, but as far as to say that it is pathetic ... honestly, it seems to me quite inappropriate or maybe the pretest to start a negligible discussion.
BTW, even more popular development tool do not include such functionality ... maybe because it is not so helpful.

Re: Prompt for compiler variables
Francesco,
While I certainly don't agree with the way gtalpers presented his question, I do agree with him regarding the usefulness of a prompt for compiler variables. I just purchased your setup software last week and I'm diving in. I was coming from SetupFactory which I found we outgrew. SetupFactory had the ability to create separate build configurations, each with it's own set of compiler variables. This was extremely helpful to us as we had three basic types of installs; Full (including help files and .NET assemblies), Update (just programs and data files), and a very small patch. It was nice to have a prompt when building so I could create both the Full and Update setups easily.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Francesco for maybe making this a future feature,
Sorry about the tone of my earlier reply - I was not having a good day!
