'Setup resource decompression failure' - all installers

It seems you've fixed the issue related to the 'mia1' folder, as the installer tries to make another temporary folder each time I run it: mia2, mia3 etc. Nonetheless, it will continuously say 'Setup resource decompression failure'.

Is there a standard fix for this now?

Also, our license file refuses to install properly (or at all), but that's a separate issue, I'm using a trial version for now.

if you are referring to the issue discussed with the following thread, this was fixed with the release of IA X3 20.05.

I downloaded the most recent installer 3 days ago and installed InstallAware Studio.

Do I have to do this update manually? Because evidently the issue still persists.

Dear Jkinley,

the latest version available (X3 20.05) includes the fix for that specific problem discussed with the link I posted previously.
No other actions are required. It's a full installer and a new re-generated license file is required to activate the product.

I can only suppose that probably, the issue you seem to have has nothing to do with the one reported with the link.

I will uninstall and reinstall the software again, but I have already done this once, and this issue was not resolved in the most recent update.

I will post here again after reinstalling and receiving the same error.

Dear Jkinley,

instead to continue to post the fact that you re-installed IA multiple times, can you please describe in DETAILS which is your issue?

The link I posted previously, it was started to report a problem which affected the generated setup file. This was limited to specific target system conditions, as described with the previous posts, when executing the generated setup package on a Windows 10 machine.
This specific issue was fixed with the release of IA X3 20.05 and I am totally sure of this.

Instead of continue to post the fact that this issue was fixed in the most recent update, why don't you tell me what additional information you want?

Step 1) Run the installer
Step 2) Receive message 'Setup resource decompression failure'

What else do you want to know?

I'm just trying to say that what you are reporting, I suppose "it has nothing to do" with the issue fixed in the latest release of IA.

- Are you able to replicate the issue on any target OS?
- is there any Anti Virus installed with your Target machine?

So far I have tried on Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines.

Some of the machines had antivirus, others did not, in any case, the installers were being run on full administrator accounts with elevated privilege.

It does not seem to matter what the OS/anti-virus configuration is or what computer I run it on, the message is always "Setup resource decompression failure".

I've reinstalled InstallAware 3 times, created over 10 new projects from scratch, and recompiled my software.

No matter what, before the first stage of the installer even finishes:

is there any Anti Virus installed on the machine where you Installed IA?

In addition;

-do you have any chance to post the generated setup.exe file?

Yes the machine that has InstallAware on it has Avast Business Security.

I can look into sending the generated exe to your support as well.

Dear Jkinley,

I suspect that the cause of your issue is the AV installed on your development machine.
Very probably this alters the generated setup package and this could explain all the problems you are having.


Unfortunately, most AV's today are a cure worse than the disease.
As I mentioned other times on this forum, I had a similar problem with Visual Studio on my Dev machine.
Due of this I had to remove the AV (which I used for more then 15 years without having any problem) and replaced it with the free "Microsoft Security Essentials" (which works fine honestly).

I definitely agree that AV is generally worse than the disease, and I don't think third-party AV is necessary anymore. I think the AV companies know that to be honest.

I prefer to use Microsoft's built-in security as well, as I find it more than adequate, it was just that the system administrator here required Avast to be installed.

I've been able to uninstall Avast so I will be able to test development without AV installed.

I will post back here with the results.

I tried making a new installer on a new install of IA on a completely new install of Windows 7.

I got the same error.

Do you know what attributes my files/project could have that would cause that error? Evidently I haven some setting consistently wrong or the files I'm trying to put into the intsaller are doing something weird.
