Before we do that, there is a new error (it never ends does it?):

Error during build: Unable to compile MSI action install files

Also I would imagine people could figure out some of these errors themselves if there was more information given. Single, nondescript sentences are very unhelpful for debugging.

EDIT:

I managed to get past this error (who knows how!), and got an even more silly error:

Error during build: Unable to build setup files: Incorrect parameter value

What is that supposed to mean!? - This is the recommended install, Studio Admin I believe?

EDIT 2:

I somehow got it to build, but I'm having an issue creating folders/copying files into the C: drive. Where would I put options to create folders/copy/install files into folders on the C: drive?

LOL! Now I apparently can't create installers because "Error during build: Unable to build setup files: Insufficient memory".

Dear jkinley,

for what you are reporting it looks like a strange "random" issue... very very strange.

- Can you tell me which IA version are you using (the version is listed in Add Remove Program under control panel)?
- Can you also tell the build version reported from the IA IDE (switch to Project view in IA IDE then select the version button from the top ribbon menu)?

I noticed if I changed the compression from "Best" to the middle of the slider, and I change the output folder to a new, empty folder EVERY TIME I compile, AND compile to MSI instead of EXE, AND change the default output name from "$TITLE$" to anything else, it will work.

Only under these circumstances can I make it work. For now this is good enough.

For the record, the version is:
InstallAware X3
Build 1.11.2016

In Add/Remove it just says:
InstallAware X3 / Product Version: 20.11.0.2016

This is a new install, and I chose the default option during the installation, which I believe was Studio Admin (Recommended).

Dear Jkinley,

I asked for your IA version and build number, just to be sure that you was using the latest version and that you used a correct license file to activate the product.

Anyway those you posted are both correct.

It's sure that the higher compression level needs much more system's resource available and this could explain the "Insufficient memory" error if there isn't enough RAM installed.

But for what concerns the other points you reported, these sound very very strange.
For example;
- the output folder doesn't have any effect on the build process itself, unless it exists something that prevents to write to such folder.
- The build process always creates the corresponding EXE before to generate the MSI output.

Due the above considerations, are you sure that any installed Anti Virus or security policy are not at the root of your issue?
