InstallAware X4 offered me to install a new update. It did so by displaying a tray notification that said 'Click here to download new update'. However, clicking on that notification didn't do anything except remove the notification. I had to click on the actual IA tray icon for it to download the update.
Then it displayed another tray notification that said 'Click here to install'. Again, clicking on it did nothing but remove the notification. I clicked on the actual IA icon, and the installer started.
First thing the installer did was remove the previous version. OK. Then it started the new version installation. I was clicking Next to go through the usual steps and when it offered the choice of the product edition, I clicked Next too before noticing that it had Studio Admin chosen while the edition I use is Developer. And there was not Back button! Only Next or Cancel. Since I don't have a license for Studio Admin, I clicked Cancel. The installation closed. And now I don't have IA installed at all! It uninstalled itself.
Why is there no Back button to change the choice of the edition?? Please add it. And if the tray notifications say 'Click here to...' then they should do what they say.
No 'Back' button during installation and other update feedback
Re: No 'Back' button during installation and other update feedback
More trouble:
I re-downloaded the trial version from the main page, installed it (chose the correct edition). Of course it forgot its license, so then I had to run the license installer too. Finally, it got installed.
Now, when I run it, it shows 'InstallAware X3' on the start screen! I double checked. The desktop shortcut is correct and points to C:\Program Files(x86)\InstallAware X4\, but it runs IA X3.
What's going on?

Re: No 'Back' button during installation and other update feedback
This means that you used a wrong personal license file to activate the product.
Please note that each InstallAware version (including updates) requires a specific personal license file to activate the product.
if you are entitled for a free major product update (If its been less than 3 months since your purchase) or if you purchased an update to last release, you can re-generate the license from your account page (http://www.installaware.com/myinstallaware).
PLEASE NOTE!
Using different versions of license installers and trial version can wreak havoc with the IDE and the setup engine. Out-of-sync versions will cause a lot of random issues with your setups purely due to engine/compiler/script version mismatches and cannot be supported by technical support.

For what concerns the Back Button, this is available on the top left side with each setup dialog (left Arrow) of the trial installer.
Hope this helps you.

Re: No 'Back' button during installation and other update feedback
Thank you, Francesco!
Perhaps the Back button should be more noticeable. Could it be moved to the bottom of the window? That's where one would expect it to be.
Another thought: could the installer remember the choice of edition from what was installed before?
And if each update requires generating a new license, could the updater show some information about that? Ideally, the license should work for each update within the same product version. But if for some technical reason that's not possible, then it should say that I need to go to the support page and generate a new license.

Re: No 'Back' button during installation and other update feedback
Dear A_Ivlev,
This just depends on the dialog theme used... so it's just a layout matter. I'll post your suggestion to our dev team.
Of course it could. I'll post your suggestion to our dev team.
Unfortunately due several reasons, this is not quite easy to implement ... anyway even in this case, I'll post your suggestion to our dev team.
Regards
