Cannot open install package

Postby sakura » Fri Aug 04, 2006 5:22 am

Hello folks,

I have created an installer using Setup Capture. After completing the installation package as needed, like removing some system files such as NTUser.dat from the setup, I tried to deploy the installer on the target machine.

The setup does not use any compression and is deployed as a single EXE file. License and Readme are removed from the installer. The SWF-Window in the progress windows has been replaced by a simple panel, asking the user to be patient.

After going through all configuration windows, nothing special here btw, the installer is getting ready to deploy. However, right before starting the deployment it fails with following message (rough translation from German):

===========================================
Installation Result
===========================================
The "Productname" Setup Wizard has failed: "This installation package could not be opened. Please ensure that the package is available and that you have access rights. Ask the maker of the package to ensure that this is a valid Windows installer package." Please check your settings and try again.
===========================================
[Finish]
===========================================

Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards,
Daniel

P.S.:
  • Searching did not bring back any usable results for me :(
  • I have tried different deployment forms, all returning with this same problem :(

Hello,

When you say the package does not use any compression, do you mean its a non-compressed single file EXE or web based EXE setup, or an uncompressed flat-folder structure build setup?

I meant non-compressed single file EXE :) I have tried it with the "best compression as single file EXE" as well. Same result both times.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

Maybe you could post your setup here, so we can take a look at it?
Any more details you might be able to provide?

I really don't know which details I could provide much more, sorry. But I think I have not mentioned yet, that it is written in InstallAware 2005. But for now, don't worry to much, as of right now, I am downloading the update to IA 6.01. We'll see how that works out.

If you are just interessted, I've attached the project, without the source files themselves, which would amount over 300 MB.

Ah, that might explain it. 2005 did have a couple of odd issues like this come up every now and then. You should be smooth sailing with the newest 6.x line!

The update worked like a charm after recapturing the original setup.

Just thought I let you all know ;)
