Major GAC Issue!!! -- RESOLVED!

Postby tltaylor76 » Sat Nov 18, 2006 2:21 pm

We have a number of .NET assemblies that have a space in the name. For example, "MicroFour StrataFrame UI.dll". When using your Install Assembly command, it interprets this as an assembly name of Microfour and the version as StrataFrame. Obviously this causes lots of red screens during the install process.

Just FYI, I tried placing quotes around the assembly name and then your UI cratered.

Any help here would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

Just to add to my first post, spaces in the actual file name is not the issue per say, it is when there are spaces in the assembly name. This is a very common practice.

Well you are actually violating the Naming rules specified by Microsoft for Assembly names. It should "." for spaces, and not Space.FXCop will definetely yell at this error!

Wait a reply for Michael to fix this, but please consider seriously changing your name policy!

FYI - R&D has resolved this issue, just regenerate and reinstall your license to take care of it.

Michael,

I just wanted to tell you that this great response has prompted me to purchase InstallAware today. I have been running a trial version, but this pushed me over the edge.

Your service and help has always been very prompt and helpful. I am looking forward to working with InstallAware and the team!

Just FYI, I thought you would like to know that through this experience we have cancelled our InstallShield order and will now solely use InstallAware...which is a much better product in my opinion.

I understand what it is like to be in the developer tools business, we have a .NET application framework called StrataFrame ( www.strataframe.net ) that we sell. When asked, which happens often, we will direct our users to your product.

Thanks again!

Dear Taylor,

I hope you didn't take my response as offensive or aggressive to you.
It was just a comment from me :D

I would love to help you further at your Setup Package.

See you on the forums! :)
