Same file in more features

Postby selisoft » Tue Jan 09, 2007 9:00 pm

Hi,

i am completely new to IA, but created my first setup in a few minutes - IA is very impressive :-)

But i have a problem:
I need the same file in more features (not all). How should I include this kind of files so they are packed only once in setup.exe (=smaller).

One additional question:
How does Competitive Upgrade work (I'm using Wise InstallMaster 8.x)?
Do i have to send the serial number?

Thank you very much.
Josef

First define all your features and their sub fetures in the Features Pane in the Visual View then whe you go the the Files pane check the "Fileter Files By Feature" Check box and place common files in the Feature Independent setion.

If you files are not truly Feature Independent and are only for say 2 out of 3 Features then InstallAware will place them in each feature Web Media Block, so they will get packaged twice but if your end user only selects one feature they will only get the file once.

You could also create a shared web media block for the common features, and place the shared file in there, and test for the selection of either of the other components using If statements in the script - thus enabling truly intelligent installation of this file only when needed without taking up twice the space.

Also, a new command is available in InstallAware which can hide features: Set Component Visibility. You can also now control if features are allowed to be toggled on-off in the feature selection dialogs: Set Component Choice. So you could even create a bona-fide third feature and hide it or lock its state.

Hi Josef,

For the competitive upgrade, all we need is your serial number. You can just email this to us after having placed your order, and we will activate your new product for you right away.
