Install problems after upgrading to 6.15+

Postby stampy » Wed Jan 31, 2007 5:59 pm

Hello,

Previously I was using IA v6.03. I recently upgraded to 6.15 and then found my setup would hang immediately (somewhere in the initial IA bootstrapping/prerequisite checking). I was building the setup from the command line where I pass in a number of compiler variables. Interestingly when I would build from the IDE I wouldn’t see this hang.

I did a bit of troubleshooting with no successes. I upgraded again to 6.22 and found that it seemed to fix this hang. However, as I proceeded through the installation, the setup would hang at the point when trying to install a Light Mode Setup packaged in with the main setup (File Bag to bring it down, followed by Extract 7Zip Archive and Run Light Mode Setup to install it). This LMS, along with a number of other ones, were all packaged under 6.0.3 awhile ago.

I repackaged the main setup using v6.03 (on an earlier snapshot of a virtual machine where I do builds) and the setup succeeded.

Does my main setup and all of its included light mode setups have to be packaged using the same version of InstallAware v6.15+ (perhaps due to IA Setup Engine changes)? If so, this is kind of inconvenient because my light mode setups are on a different build cycle – I would prefer not to have to rebuild them all. I suppose I could go back to v6.03 but then I would have to go back and re-provision my build machine again.

Thanks!

Thanks for the thorough explanation - that really helps!

Yes, LM setups need to be repacked in the latest version. This is because of engine changes - for instance, the engine now substitutes values of compiler variables used during localization.
