Uninstall in VISTA Error

Post by nanashi16 »

Hi, I have a problem I can not seem to figure out what is going on.

When I try to uninstall my project from a VISTA computer I get an error.

It says:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

This same script works fine on the XP computers I have tested on.

If you are moving from an old version to a new version of my software it uninstalls correctly, just when you try to completely remove the software from the uninstall link or the programs control panel.

I am not very good with MSI, Install Aware is the only reason I can get anything out at all. I have two projects that I am using 6.22 and that I build from scratch on. I am don't even know where to start and all of my other resources have been used up.

Thanks
Steven

Try logging. And try to find another Vista machine? Maybe something indeed got messed up with the MSI configuration or registry - these things unfortunately do happen.

I have recently encountered this myself, so have been doing some digging.

It's simply a permissions issue - the user that is running the uninstaller is not elevated, and so can not communicate to the MSI engine.
Run the uninstaller as the user that installed it, or the administrator user (right click, run as administrator).

I have tried the permissions idea and did not work. I ran as an admin and did not work. I will try to find another vista computer.

thanks for the ideas

:(

What type of build are you doing? Is it a debug build?

This problem only appeared on my Vista machine with a debug build ...

I'm working with Windows 7 64-bit and having this problem with one of my installers as well - all the others work fine.
All of them were created under IA9. I have already tried to follow every one of the steps described above, but I still keep on getting the error message.
Any other tips on solving this weird issue?

Dear Tiago,

Are you sure that you followed this thread properly? It seemed to have fixed the issue on my side. Perhaps try to reinstall the InstallAware IDE.
