IA Change Log?

Postby AndrewC » Sun Mar 04, 2007 10:05 pm

I notice a new build of IA dated 3/2 is available for download. Is there a change log published somewhere so I can see what's new/changed?

Thanks

At present we do not publish a change log between Major versions; sorry.
The Major version change log can be found in the help file, but if this is what you are after I can post it here.

Is the help file available outside of the program install? If the change logs are not available until the program is installed, how are we supposed to tell if we want to download it. If the update breaks something, finding this out after it has been installed is a little late.

Major releases are detailed in the forums; a list of "Whats new" etc is posted at that time.

We do not post notification (or change logs) for intermediate version releases.

Things breaking should not be a regularly occurrence - if ever - and especially not during the same version (intermediate releases tend to be bug fixes only).

I would ask InstallAware to please consider a change in their policy for the benefit of their customer base.

Our organization needs to evaluate every potential software upgrade prior to committing to it. Generally we're only going to install an "intermediate" upgrade if it addresses an issue we are experiencing. But how can we make such a decision if you don't provide the relevant information?

We're simply asking for a list of changes here. If this latest release contains only bug fixes, then please tell us what they are so we can make an informed decision about whether or not to upgrade.

Hi Mark,

I can assure you that I will do my best to persuade the Dev team to keep me in the loop on future releases. As soon as I know what's changed, I will post it on the forum, however, I can not guarantee anything I'm afraid.

Just a quick follow up - I've managed to twist some arms, and have a rough list of what's fixed in the latest update (6.32):

- Individual progress items; you can now insert a manual progress bar and implement a global progress indicator
- DBCS bug fixes
- Modeless download box in order to keep trying broken downloaded - 60 seconds of inactivity will automatically cause a retry (this is very handy for those who have large installs and have users that start the setup then walk away)
- Keyboard support for component selection / configuration dialog

I think the next update will be more interesting however, as there are some performance tweaks :)
