Some advice please!

As we roll out our annual upgrade (same ProductID) , a number of our users are getting 'cannot uninstall' messages, 'cannot find previous version source' and the install quits. Manually removing the previous install via Control Panel is normally unsuccessful and it usually requires to be removed with the Windows Install Cleanup utility. The previous version would either have been supplied as a single compressed install via Web or uncompressed on CD. We did use merge modules for MSXML3 in the previous version.

The fixing though successful is all quite time-consuming and confusing for our users who are generally not very technically minded.

If I was to alter the IA scripts to ignore the uninstall error and just carry on with the fresh install, would this cause any major problems?

Our application requirements are pretty simple and self-contained and I can't see how we would cause any major system upset, but would it cause any Windows installer confusion in the future.
