There is a post on Sep 6 that says to register an assembly for COM Interop with the /Codebase option, that we must run RegAsm, rather than use the Register Assembly command.
If this is true, what't the best way to find the Regasm executable using IA? We had to do this using Wise... was hoping for something simpler in IA.
And, if this is true, can we log a Feature Request to get some checkboxes on the Register Assembly dialog to let us apply these options from within the normal script command?
Thanks!

I am having the same need to use the Regasm with /codebase parameter, and would like to know what would be the best way to find the Regasm executable using IA?

I think regasm lies in the .net framework directory. I recently needed to get that directory to use another app, installutil.exe.
I made a plugin wich calls the function GetCORSystemDirectory (imported from MSCorEE.dll).
You may need to call widechartomultibyte on the result string, I had to.
It'd be nice to have this in IA, maybe it is?. I didn't find it anyway.

Just trying to figure out .NET support in IA:
Two different commands exist: Install Assembly and Register Assembly. What is the difference between these, and what is exactly performed?
My guess would be that:
* Install Assembly calls the installutil from the directory of the .NET version identified when scanning the assembly.
* Register Assembly calls the Regasm utility from the same directory as above.
However, I do not know if the regasm utility is called with the /codebase argument, which is strictly what I need.
I think the documentation somewhat unclear on this, so some IA expert or developer views on this matter is highly appreciated!
Thank you!

Register Assembly calls regasm.exe, without codegen. Use Run program if you need codegen.
Install Assembly is completely different. It creates an MSI database entry for your assembly, so that it is properly installed as an assembly. You can install to the GAC with this MSIcode command, or to your own application folder.
installutil.exe is called by the following two commands only:
Remove Assemblies and Run .NET Installer Class.

Thanks a lot! This was really clarifying
I wish this kind of information could be available in the on-line help
Where would you recommend putting the "Run Program" commands? After Apply Install ?
Is the "Generate Native Images" command similar to the "Generate native-code version during installation" feature in Wise for Windows Installer?
I put these commands just after Apply Install, but before the calls to "Register Assembly".
BTW: It would be nice if the Register Assembly command could have a /Codebase checkbox!
Another issue is how to find the correct .NET directory from where to run the regasm program? Is there a (set of) variable(s) for the various .NET framework versions?

Still missing the /Codebase support in Register Assembly, I would hope that was fixed with IA7. The RegAsm /codebase is the .NET FW tool I use most frequently, and RegisterAssembly is close to useless if it can not apply the /codebase switch. This is (although not perfectly) working nice in Wise for Windows Installer, so I wonder why it is not in IA?
And, equally important, is there a way to link a file being processed with Register Assembly to the feature to which it belongs?
