Push Installs from Group Policy

Postby Gareth Owen » Fri Oct 21, 2005 8:49 am

I am just in the process of evaluating InstallAware as a replacement for our current Wise install system. One of the things that we require is to be able to Push install our application using the standard Microsoft Group Policy installer.
Is this possible using InstallAware, as I know that it is not possible to run the msi directly?

All help is greatfully received.

Yes, this is possible. InstallAware ships with a Group Policy Wizard that creates MSI files which may be used with push installs.

Thanks Sinan, Have just spotted this option,

I have found a couple of issues with it though,

1) If you run the msi manually it pops up the Language Selection Dialog, is there anyway to suppress this for these installs.

2) Is it possible to use the same msi for both admin (silent) installs and normal manual installs

3) We are running a number of additional installs from this main install, but these do not seem to get run when using this admin msi. The installs are additional Install Aware created installs, I did originally plan to use the Install MSI plugin, but this did not seem to work correctly, so I have used the run .exe with the /s option

Thanks for the help.

1) These MSI files are not meant to be manually run
2) No...Group Policy Wizard MSI files are meant to be used only with Active Directory deployment
3) This is correct, you may also use the Run Light Mode Setup option if you package the setups in light mode
