Hi,
Being a newbie I'm not certain of a couple of issues - can someone please enlighten me on the following matters when I use IA's patch functions (which are working fine):
1. IA patches do not install new assemblies into the GAC, they only "patch" current exe's and dll's - Yes/No
2. If my update from 2.2 to 2.3 requires a new dll to be installed into the GAC then instead of the user downloading the patch - they will need to download and use the whole 2.3 installation - Yes/No.
3. If I rename the mainsetup2_3.exe file to the same name as the "patch file" and the end user actually downloads the full 2.3 install, no harm is done in regard to future patches - Yes/No. (The user will be oblivious to the fact that they are downloading the full install as far as I can tell).
4. If I do 3. then when I release a patch for version 2.4, the produced patch will work on the full install the user ran at 3 without problem - Yes/No.
In IA, if a user is going from say 1.9 to the current version (lets assume 2.5) then I will configure IA to download the patches for 2.3 (being the full install), 2.4 and 2.5 . Patches for 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 being a waste of time in view of the full install of 2.3.
It all makes sense to me but I don't want to stuff my clients up if I'm wrong.
Thanks.
