Problems using copy local files and command line arguments

Post by jrhutch »

I am evaluating InstallAware to see if it can be used to handle upgrades to our software that runs in an embedded windows environment. This requires that I send several variables in to the installaware exe through the command line, and have it move files on the local drives of the system. I am using the evaluation version of InstallAware Studio, and have been having some problems getting this to work.

From the help file, I understand that you are supposed to be able to define a variable in the MSIcode script, and type something to the effect of

setup.exe FOO=1 where foo is already defined, but I have yet to get this to work.

I have also tried to use Copy Local Files to move files around with a *.* wildcard, but so far it has not worked.

For example, if have two directories with many files in the first, and say:

Copy Local Files d:\\newversion\\*.* to d:\\currentversion\\*.*
Apply Install (get result into variable ReturnCode)

nothing happens. Is there some step that I am missing or is that all that is required. I am curious if for some reason this would not work in the evaluation version, or if I am somehow doing this completely wrong.

I just tried what you described and it works perfectly. I am not sure what the problem might be. Maybe you don't have enough rights over one of the folders.
