Invoke a Manual Update Check from within a software program.

Post by kksoft »

I have a new copy of Studio and the only problem I am currently having is to invoke a manual web update check from inside my software, not IA setup.exe.

I know in the IA IDE, there is a variable $EXEFILE$ that resolves the location of the setup.exe. Makes sense. But how do I invoke that .exe from the outside world. i.e. : Inside my software I want end-users to be able to invoke setup.exe /update. But I have no way of knowing WHERE that file is in their system as I don't have access to the $EXEFILE$ parameter. My clients are used to being able to check for updates any time they wish and not waiting for a scheduled task.

I am sure that I am not the first person to ask this, so I am guessing there is a solution. Can you help? Maybe some VB6 syntax? Thanks

Ken,

All you need to do is run the uninstaller file with /update parameter. The uninstaller path can be obtained from the shortcut created at install time.

Hi Ken,

Did you work out how to find the directory at runtime using VB or C#.

Thanks,

Glen.
