Fatal Error 1603 when installing .NET 3.0 on XP SP3

Post by keith »

Hello,

I am getting a Fatal 1603 error when installing .NET 3.0 on XP machines that have SP3 installed. Specifically the Windows Imaging Component fails to install. I turned on verbose MSI logging but can't find anything in there regarding the error.

I don't need WIC, and know I can just comment out the WIC portion of the .NET 3.0 install script, but I wanted to know if this was a known issue and/or if there was a better way to go about handling this.

Thanks!

We're seeing the same thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

XP SP3 - .NET Framework 3.0 - Imaging

Post by antoinebrunel »

I'm facing the same serious problem while installing .Net Framework 3.0 with the imaging component in XP with SP3 as shown in the attached file. I confirm that this does not occur neither with XP SP2 nor Vista.

Furthermore, although the .Net Framework 3.0 installation fails, it appears as installed in Add or Remove programs. Obviously, in reality, the .Net Framework 3.0 is only partially installed.
When running the installer again, it will not try to reinstall .it and will install the software directly. Obviously the installed software will fail since .Net Framework 3.0 is not correctly installed.

Please help! I need an urgent solution, we are about to release!
Antoine.
