Upgrading InstallShield Installs with constant UpgradeCode

I was wondering if there's been any action taken in regard to this post:

The problem is it's common practice for people who have been using InstallShield to perform major upgrades which involve changing the Product and Package codes, but leaving the Upgrade code constant.

InstallAware seems to use a different strategy, keeping the product code constant and changing the package (revision) code.

Now that I'm using InstallAware, I want to upgrade my user-base by removing any older version of the product packaged using InstallShield, the only way to do that reliably is to look for the UpgradeCode.

There appears to be a 3rd party plugin available, so I'll look into that, but it does seem like this should be in the product, especially if you're targeting InstallShield customers.
