IA Version 8.01 Update ?

Post by Matz »

Hi IA Team,

I am getting in touch with IA for a new project, used installShield before.
Now I am a little confused:

I have seen and installed the Installaware Trial downloaded 1th Nov.08 and found, that its version is 8.01.
Q1: I found no announce about this version. What has changed to V8.0 I have installed before ?
Q2: It seems, that I have to uninstall V8 and than install 8.01 and process license install than again. ?
Q3: I have installed the "Visual Studio 2008 Runtimes Update" found in Download Area. InstallAware 8.01 seems to be donwgraded by this, it shows Version 8.0 in Version-Box. Now, how do I get the newest InstallAware Version installed ?

It would be nice to have more transparency - just changing Trial Version without any comment or posting to registered users is not a good way in my opinion. It leaves me a little inconfident. But may be, I did not found the right information page.

Whats about the "Receive automatic software upgrades for the next 2 years" feature I payed for:
Q4: Will I get eMails with advice and Download Link ?
Q5: And how to install the upgrade than ?

Sorry, lots of questions, but I like to evaluate and use IA as soon as possible.

Thanks for help in advance
Martin

Q1: This is a minor version increment - has some bug fixes and the only new feature in this version is support for the latest SQL Compact runtime.

Q2: Yes. Running setup will automatically remove the old version before installing the new version.

Q3: This wouldn't downgrade your InstallAware version, you might have installed an older license instead which actually downgraded. And oh, you do not need to install this pack anymore because it is already integrated into the 8.x family of InstallAware products. That pack was for 7.x versions only. v8's native implementation is better and more granular.

Q4: For significant updates, we generally send out emails. We do not email with minor version announcements.

Q5: You can always upgrade to the latest version by installing the latest trial and then re-creating your latest license from your private account page. You can do this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
