BUG: Virtual Directories cannot be removed in 64bit mode

Post by Dana Epp »

Platform: IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 x64
InstallAware Version: 8 – Build AME –rej.rtm. 090408

Repro: Create a Virtual Directory called "Test" on a secondary website (in my case Site Index 3). Build an installer with one action... to "Delete Virtual Directory". Set the installer in 64bit mode. It will NOT delete the virtual directory.

Now rebuild the installer in 32bit mode. You will notice it DOES delete it.

It seems if you have a 64bit installer, it simply will not delete the Virtual directory when it should.

Any idea what might be the cause of this?

Would someone from InstallAware be able to confirm this bug for me please? And would you be able to tell me when we could expect a fix?

Does ANYONE know of a workaround that I could apply here???

I can't be the ONLY one installing web applications on IIS7 in 64bit mode!

I can't be the only person using InstallAware on 64bit Windows Server 2008 with IIS7.

No one else has concerns with this?

Did you have a chance to try Michael's proposed workaround on this - setting the installer to x86 right before calling delete and then back to x64 right after, as an interim solution until we can track the issue down in detail for you?

That should solve your problem at least for the short term as long as you're positive its related to the CPU mode.
