Hey guys,
I designed a very effective packaging solution for our company.
The only issue is, that miabuild does a compression on already packaged files. What we need is a compressor exclusion list for certain filetypes.
As example I would mention RAR packer which allows to exclude fileextensions like *.rar *.zip *.exe or *.jpg.
I have *.7z files with sizes over 500 megs and the miabuild which runs on a slower box does also RECOMPRESS those too.
Therefore we have a useless significant long compile process time.
At last a static exclusion list for common known filetypes would be a great improvement. I expect a time factor reduction of 10.
In case people are interested in an effective way to fast-build installers which contains up to 50.000 files and more feel free to contact me!

InstallAware isn't a file archiver, so the proper solution for you would be to ensure no files going inside your setup are compressed. This way your setup will be as small as possible. In particular, we even provide a tool called Setup Decompressor, along with pre-decompressed application runtimes where applicable, to facilitate this.

InstallAware isn't a file archiver, but it uses archives
Thanks for your answer Michael,
but I disagree in this particular point. IE offers the functionality to extract 7z files, so I really can't see a reason not to use that kind of functionality. As we distribute our products exclusively as single_install.exe the distribution-content is included in the installer which is in fact a LZMA packaged self extractor. As the regular build process time of one IA installer with thousands of files takes an unneccessary long time and a large amount of the resource files (images, videos ...) less often change as the application dlls, we PRE package them outside the normal installation build process. Which makes sense. The outside prepared packages are assembled by automated external tools we have written, attaching customized indexing databases and stuff we need. everything is working excellent and fine, apart from the miabuild process which tries to re-compress 'with advanced compression technology' files which are already compressed based on freely available LZMA compression agorithm. So I wonder why IA doesn't simply leave out already packed files on the buiild process. If you say you are not able to solve this because you can't do it, ok, but telling me IA isn't a file archiver isn't an answer to my question. I take a look into this Setup Decompressor to see if I can get it involved into the process
