Create A SQL Install Log

Post by pointos »

SQL Install Fails

I am having an issue with installing SQL on some customers computers. I dont' know what the error is but I know SQL is failing. I already posted about fixing this issue, and have not gotten a response. However, is there a way to log the SQL install so that I can view what error happened?

I saw a post about this, and it said to log the SQL install, but I don't know how to do it. I think I need to add something to the command line script, but what and where will it save the file?

Passing Installer Parameters To Own Program Issue

Right now, when the installer fails I have it sending me an email, and going to a support page, so I can easily attach the log file if I can figure out how to create it and where it will be.

I am attaching the reg.exe file that I call when SQL fails. The run file parameters are:

On SQL error:
failed $USERCOMPANY$ "SQL Error"

On Main error:
failed $USERCOMPANY$ "Main Error"

On Success:
success $USERCOMPANY$

I am having an issue with this as well, because I'd like to put $USERCOMPANY$ in quotes so it is seen as 1 parameter. I also posted about this, and haven't gotten a response.

If you know why this is not installing on some computers, then I won't need to do this, but if not, please advise. I tried installing MDAC Refresh with the install, but that did not work. I don't think I need to do that, but I was trying everything.
