Write Variables to XML file?

I need to write 2 variables ($SQLCONN$, $MYSQL$) to a Microsoft XML file below. I'm trying to eliminate writting to the Registry if possible...

<SqlSettings> <SqlConn>server=127.0.0.1;database=myDB;uid=root;pwd=123</SqlConn>
<MYSQL>True</MYSQL>
</SqlSettings>
