Our installer needs to check that the .Net Framework 3.5, Service Pack 1 is installed. We don't plan on installing the framework, we just want to check if it's there.
I know this is dead simple in InstallAware 9, but we're still using version 8 (and upgrading is not an option right now).
What I tried:
-- Went to the Application Runtimes page to add it there, but in IA 8 it only lists up to .Net Framework 3.5. There's no selection for SP1 of 3.5
-- Tried the .Net Framework plug-in option in the "drag-drop" bar on the right, but it lists only up to .Net Framework 2.0.
-- Thought that Get System Settings would be an option, but it doesn't list the .Net framework in there.
-- I also saw that it is supposed to be possible to download and install new plug-ins from the Community site, but when I went there I didn't see anything for the .Net Framework 3.5, SP1.
So can anyone explain to me what I need to do for this?
Thanks.

Essentially, you call Read Registry to detect whether your desired version is installed. Normally this is copy-paste from the existing runtime scripts; in your case you should be able to consult MS documentation to determine the relevant registry key(s) and read them.
My guess: two lines of MSIcode.

Code: Select all
Read Registry Key HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\NET Framework Setup\\NDP\\v3.5\\Version into NET35SP1
if Variable NET35SP11 Greater Than (Version) 3.5.30729.00
Set Variable NET35SP1 to TRUE
else
Set Variable NET35SP1 to FALSE
end
That did it. Thanks. I implemented the check against the Version value in the registry.
There's also another value in there that could be used:
HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\NET Framework Setup\\NDP\\v3.5\\SP
That's the service pack number. So it's also possible to check against that. But I'm using the version number.
