Hi,
We’ve got an error when we try to install the runtime SQL CE under Windows 7 64 bit.
We use the IA scripts but we have changed the English runtime with the French one.
It works for all OS (including vista 64 and Seven 32 bits) but with windows 7 64 bits we’ve got an error (“please use Windows update”) when the SQL Server setup is launched.
The same setup with the English runtimes works under windows 7 64 bits.
I’ve tried to install the French runtime outside IA and it works.
(I also tried to install it with /q to make a silent install and it works to).
Do you have any idea ?
Thanks

Hi,
First of all, I‘ve made a mistake, the same setup with English runtimes doesn’t work to ! (sorry…)
So I’ve done the following tests this morning :
I have created a simple project and call the IA script to install the SQL CE runtimes and it worked with English and French ones.
(runtimes where installed as prerequisites).
In my setup, runtimes are installed after the user interview, in the “perform first time installation” because the user can choose if SQL CE will be installed or not.
If I use the command “Install MSI Setup” I’ve got the error.
If I use the Run Program command (with the /q install or not) it works.
So I think that the problem is when we call the install msi setup during the install.
Thanks

It shouldn't matter where you call it at all - why not run it non-silently so you can see what the problem is, or log the SQL Server installation itself. Also make sure you are not passing /qn to (Un)Install MSI Setup as that is an invalid parameter to the MSI engine (its for the command line front-end to the Windows Installer engine only).

Sorry, perhaps I don't understand...
I can't choose if I perform a silent install or not with the command Install/Remove MSI package...
The only parameter is ADDLOCAL=ALL
So to test without the silent install, I've launched my SQL CE setup with the command “Run Program”.
If I do that, the SQL CE setup is launched correctly and I can install it so I can’t have error message.
This Works :
Define File Bag : #IADIR#\\runtimes\\sqlcompactsp1bin\\SSCERuntime-FRA-x86.msi, get runtime location of files into variable SQL35SP1FILES
Run Program $SQL35SP1FILES$\\SSCERuntime-FRA-x86.msi /q (WAIT, get result into variable SQL35SP1)
And This doesn’t work :
Define File Bag : #IADIR#\\runtimes\\sqlcompactsp1bin\\SSCERuntime-FRA-x86.msi, get runtime location of files into variable SQL35SP1FILES
Install/Remove MSI Package $SQL35SP1FILES$\\SSCERuntime-FRA-x86.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL] (get result into variable SQL35SP1)
I hope that is clearer with the code …

Oh right - but don't you get an error message or failure condition through (Un)Install MSI Setup in your setup progress dialog?
Log it - that should tell you more.

I’ve tried to launch my setup with the /l command but the log file doesn’t says anything about the problem.
I’ve look inside the C:\\Program files (x86)\\ but the folder Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition doesn't exist.
Is there a way to log the setup inside the Install/Remove MSI Package command ?
thanks
