Creating DB Installer

Post by serina »

hi,

I want to create a database installer in InstallAware but there is no any options or features supporting it here. There is no any settings in the Dialog Sequence such as 'Database Server Login' and 'Database Installation' which can be found in InstallShield. I really need to create a database installer using InstallAware desperately. Therefore, how am I suppose to create a DB Installer using IA?....Just want to inform that I'm using Install Aware Studio version 9...

Thanks

Regards

Hi, Serina!

Unfortunately there's no such dialogs. But you can create them by your own. Btw, i'm doing the same right now. We have a set of dialogs to maintain SQL Server instances and Logins.

Of course it would be nice to have some predefined dialogs. But frankly i always change what comes by default. So I don't see the difference in time spending. That's IMO, of course :)

Have a nice day!

Also take a look at sample projects for more custom dialogs - there is even a SQL Server Connection sample out of the box.

thanks for the reply and suggestions...ALive and Michael!

currently, I've no idea how to create a dialog by my own with the SQL settings and also the Logins. If possible, may I get some guide or any samples which is similar so that its easy for me to refer with.

Hoping for the best..

Did you take a look at the example project?

There is also a CoffeeCup tutorial on building custom dialogs on our website, publications section.

Don't expect anybody here to build your setup for you. We're here to empower you to get your job done, not to do it for you ;)

Hi there,

Recently I've reformatted my machine and since that, i couldn't connect to my server in my db installation setup project.... It only showing 'Error! Connection failed.' whenever i runs the db installer. But my sql server could be connected without any error and could run properly. Hmm...I've no idea whats wrong with my project. Not only that, I even couldn't run the 'SQL Server Connection' sample in IA successfully. Its showing the same result 'Connection failed' whenever i connect to a server.

Does anyone have any idea whats wrong with my connection??

Thanks

Check your SQL connection settings. SQL Server by default does not allow network, or some types of local, connections.

Hi Andy,

I've checked my SQL connection settings and everything seems to be alright. I just wonder, if there is any wrong in my settings, how could my sql server could be connected and functioning correctly??...even during my setup installation process, the list of available servers are being displayed correctly as well....the only problem now is it showing connection failed whenever I try to connect to the server....I've tried login to few other servers using SQL Server Authentication and I've even tried connect using Windows Authentication but it still couldn't connect successfully. I used the same login ID and password to connect to my SQL Server Management Studio and its working fine....

I'm confused now...
