Is there a way to get the instancename of all available MS SQL Instances on the local machine that the setup is running.
I know it's possible to detect all MS SQL Instances running on the network, but choosing a remote MS SQL Instance would in my case break the install.
I've tried parsing the output based on Server name from the standard Detect MS SQL Instances plug-in but I just can't seem to get it right :-/
Any ideas?

The best way is to parse the list and filter on the machine name.
However, you could query the registry -- I believe there is an entry that lists the instance names.
