Allow user to enter a virtual directory name

Post by CVINAL »

Is there a way to allow a user to a) select which website to add a virtual directory to and b) enter the virtual directory name? I see that the "create new website" installaware aware dialog will let a user create a new website and enter a directory name OR using the create "virtual directory dialog" you can preassign a website index at design time and hard code a virtual directory. What I want the user to do is let the user select an existing website from a drop down and then enter a virtual directory name.

If the dialogs do not support this, is there an easy way (without creating a plug in) to capture input from the user - I just would like to add a field called "Enter Virtual Directory" and use that input if possible.

I have installaware 9 developer edition.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, we do this. Check out the sample IIS project provided with v9. It includes a wizard dialog that shows how to populate a drop down with web sites and let the user select an existing one or create a new site. It also lets you prompted them for the virtual folder. Word of caution, if you want to give the user an option to delete the folder/site they created, check and make sure you don't let them delete the Default Web Site. At least that caused some headaches for us because other apps share this site.
