WE have run into a rather puzzling problem. We have two installers, the only difference is the revision code. We use one to install the product, then delete one of the installed files. We then run the other installer:
We do a repair or modify. Nothing is written, the deleted file is not replaced. To only way to get it to install anything is if we start by uninstalling (via the 2nd installer) and then do a fresh install.
Have anyone else run into something like this? Does anyone know what could cause a situation like this?
What we are trying to achieve is an installer that can upgrade an existing installer by only overwriting older files, leaving the newer ones untouched, such as the user-edited ini-files .
Installer refuses to install

Well, we get to the dialog where we can choose to make a Repair. Do you mean that, since the revision codes where different (yes we made sure they where), choosing to make a Repair would not have had any effect, that the installers logic would have prevented it from actually running?
We are quite new at using InstallAware and every hint at how it works its magic is very welcome.

...actually the repair mode dialog can be displayed, but that means something is squirelly with the MSI code. Can be as simple as having an end block out of place or any special edits you have done after a dialog is displayed.
You should always use a basic template when creating from scratch and debug check imported projects.
...been using IA for some time now and have found few issues with IA itself (especially v8 and above), except ones that I caused myself and that has been quite few, mainly by not doing the above.
