Detect MS SQL Instances fails on Vista Home Premium

Post by sangle »

We are using IA9.

We have had a ongoing issue where our installation fails on Vista Home Premium machines with the following error.

Runtime Error in setup script
Sourcefile: browsesqlserver
Line:46
‘’ is not a valid integer value

Line 46 is where I am using the Detect MS SQL Instances. The same setup could runs fine on other versions of windows. Is there anything that could be causing this only in a Vista Home environment. THe example SQL Server Connection project fails with the same error.

Any help with this is much appreciated.

Bump again. A beta-tester of mine had the same issue - running on an XP machine, however. But, the error corresponded with the Sql Server detection plugin.

Please don't bump unless you have additional information which may help in the identification and resolution of the problem. Thanks :)

Michael - I was bumping because perhaps someone else who hasn't posted has solved the issue. And, I have read in other threads that you had a solution for this issue, and to contact you in Private for it. However, I don't know how to contact you in Private, so I posted here.. Sorry if I cross posted. :D

So, my question remains.. Is there a solution for this problem? Or, is there a work-around? Or a known specific cause?

No worries.

This was solved in the InstallAware 9 time frame, I believe. So if you are still experiencing the same issue, that is why I was asking for more information. It is possible you are running into a different issue that has the same error output.

Michael - thanks for your response.

The issue happened with my one of my testers. He said he was running the installer on a Windows XP machine. The SQL Server is on a different machine. He received the same error message as described in the original post, and the line number cooresponded with the Sql Server detection plug-in. He ran the installer on a different machine, on the same network, without receiving the error message, and the Sql server instances were detected properly.

I am running InstallAware 9, but have not installed V2 (or R2) yet.

Any ideas?
