Microsoft have retired msicuu2.exe, any alternatives?

Post by safepage »

Hi,

Microsoft has retired msicuu2.exe :( so there is no longer an official tool to remove corrupt installs from the Install/Remove dialog in control panel.

This is very annoying for ISVs as it is my experience that end users have a knack of breaking stuff.

Do you have any suggested solutions to replace this functionality?

So far in response to this situation, I have taken to manually examining the following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{GUID}
C:\ProgramData\{GUID}

And deleting any undesirable remnants.

If you offer a specific situation, we may be able to offer more useful advise.
