Patch References

Post by Raubi »

Hi,

I've got a little question to the patch references. In my situation I've got an application in version 1 and version 1.1. Now it's time to deliver version 1.2. Therefore I can build different patches.

Situation one:
1. Add "version 1"-Installer to patch references
2. Build Patch
Question: Is this the patch from version 1 to version 1.2? (With or without changes done in installer 1.1?)

Situation two:
1. Add "version 1.1"-Installer to patch references
2. Build Patch
Question: Is this the patch from version 1.1 to version 1.2?

Situation three:
1. Add "version 1" and "version 1.1"-installer to patch references
2. Build Patch
Question: What do I get now?

What will be the right solution?

I know, that the help says, I should add all old setups I've done to create patches. But what happens like in the three situations?

It depends on what your project version is set to. The patch is applied to the differences from the patch source and the current project.

Interesting points to consider:
If you patch a version, it stays at that version. So, if you patch 1.0 to 1.1, it is technically a patched 1.0. But, the file structure should match between the 1.1 install and the "patched 1.0" install.
You can't apply a patch to an already patched product.

So, in your case 1, if your project is in the 1.2 state, it will patch your 1.0 to 1.2.

In your case 3, you will have a single patch that applies to both 1.0 and 1.1
