Select Target Folder buggy?

Post by alibaba »

The 'Change' button on the dialog 'destination' calls the built-in function 'Select Target Folder'.
The strange thing is that I have 3 different effects of this function:

1. (english Win XP): If I click on it and then create a new folder in the browse dialog and select this folder, IA always adds the $COMPANY$\$TITLE$ as subfolder.
2. (german Win7, same on a german XP in VirtualBox): the same behaviour as above but after returning from browse dialog the subfolder $TITLE$ is added. (the variables are always dissolved)
3. (german XP): The function works as expected, no folders are added.
So I have three different behaviours and I have no clue why...
Another strange thing is if I select the root system partition or the program files folder the path is set to default InstallDir (<system partition>\programfiles\<company>\<title>) if I remove from browse dialog. This happens on all the systems.

It makes no difference if I change the language of the setup, the behaviour seems to depend on the system.

Can somebody explain this or made the same experience?

According to the help, it should behave like:
TARGETDIR: Initial value set to <Program Files Directory>\Application Title, using the name of the product being installed as the application title.

I'm noticing on XP, if I choose C:\ or "C:\Program Files" from the dialog as the target path, it's relocating to C:\Program Files\$TITLE$\, otherwise it point to <path>\$TITLE$.

I'm not seeing a difference between XP and Win7. What SP of XP is running?

I'm also seeing the same behavior in a pure German XP, a German-lang pack Vista, also.

Might you be running an old version of IA?

From what I gather from your post, you just want the pure path... You'll probably want to use the "select custom folder" action on the button. See this post for details:
