Install an update via a web block

Post by agrogers »

I have looked at the web Update option and although it looks fancy, i dont think it meets my needs. My installer has multiple web blocks where each web block represents a single file. These single files are often updated so i want to allow the user to grab the new ones.

All i want to be able to do is to:
1. Create a simple installer that allows the user to choose which files (Features) they want to update
2. Point those Features to the shared web block
3. Always install the selected features.

Points 1 and 2 are fine. However, point 3 is causing me grief. I can't find a reliable way of ensuring that the simple installer always downloads the features requested and installs. I assume this is because the installer thinks they are already installed and so skips them.

Is there a way that i can force the selected web blocks to always be downloaded and installed?

Thanks
Andrew

Before offering advise on you might be able to accomplish this, would a use case be something like:

An installer is issued which offers features A, B and C. (I'll treat web media blocks as features here)

The customer installs all features.

A new "installer" is issued for the same product.

(Actually at this point it's not clear what you want to happen, what will be presented to the user)

Do you want to display only features that have updates or to display all features to the user that were previously selected?
Would the user change the feature set?
How do you want this to work?

(By the way, I'm thinking you might need to do something like use the "download file" command, possibly extract the contents [I'm not sure best approach for this off-hand] and Copy/Move the files to the desired location)
