IA11, Reading the My.Settings from a VB.NET Software

Post by Zero-G. »

Hey

I deploy a program, which is written in VB.NET 2010.
In the program I use the "My.Settings" Method to save and read the path, where the enduser has his print files.

Is it anyhow possible to read the generated xml file, to get the path, where the end user has it's files and install updates directly there?

Hi,

You can use the Read XML File command to parse through xml files and extract the data you want.
Read about the command in the F1 help files and let me know if you have any other questions.

OK. - Thanks, but this isn't the answer, I was looking for...

The problem is, that "I" don't know, where the My.Settings file is saved, on my PC for example, VB.NET set's the XML File in to this path:

C:\Users\Intelli Soft\AppData\Local\Intell!_Soft\VOPT.vshost.exe_Url_dtnvwnbake2mwa3nmeg1oupdied3sl4u\1.2.1.6

So, the question is, if I will be able to get this path out of Windows anyhow. - Maybe from the registry? - This should be the first question from my side...

Hi,

I am not sure how you can get this file's path. You would have to find that out with Microsoft / your software developers.

You can also search for it on the target machine using Search Files but that will take a while and is less recommended..
