In IA 10 I was able to use the CREATE ODBC DSN command without having to issue the command "SET VARIABLE NATIVE_ENGINE to TRUE" before its execution.
Now if I don't issue the SET command first I receive the error "Error configuring ODBC data source: SampleApp, ODBC error 6: Component not found in the registry." during the install.
If I set the NATIVE_ENGINE variable to TRUE the ODBC installs, but when I attempt to connect to the database I receive errors.
What was changed in IA 11 regarding ODBC installation and execution?
I am using a Sybase ASA database.
IA 11 have an ODBC problem?

Hi,
Could you please send a reproducing project over to support at installaware.com so we could test it out?

Re: IA 11 have an ODBC problem?
Turns out I do NOT have an ODBC problem. The Create ODBC command works fine, the problem was caused by registry keys, specifically the registry key which tells the ODBC command where to find the Driver file, having their values cleared or deleted for reasons unknown.
Here is an example of the code:
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\SQL Anywhere 12\Driver, $TARGETDIR$\SQL Anywhere 12\BIN32\dbodbc12.dll
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\SQL Anywhere 12\Setup, $TARGETDIR$\SQL Anywhere 12\BIN32\dbodbc12.dll
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\,
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\Product Name\,
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\Product Name\Location, $TARGETDIR$
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\Product Name\Version, $IABUILD$
Create ODBC DSN TRAINDEX (uses driver SQL Anywhere 12)
Create ODBC DSN DEXTROSITY (uses driver SQL Anywhere 12)
If I were to insert a MessageBox after the first Write Registry commands - the values would be there. But by the time the Create ODBC commands were executed the values would be gone (blank) even though the registry entries would be there.
The odd thing is this didn't happen when I was using IA10.
Here is an example of the code:
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\SQL Anywhere 12\Driver, $TARGETDIR$\SQL Anywhere 12\BIN32\dbodbc12.dll
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\SQL Anywhere 12\Setup, $TARGETDIR$\SQL Anywhere 12\BIN32\dbodbc12.dll
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\,
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\Product Name\,
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\Product Name\Location, $TARGETDIR$
Write Registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Company Name\Product Name\Version, $IABUILD$
Create ODBC DSN TRAINDEX (uses driver SQL Anywhere 12)
Create ODBC DSN DEXTROSITY (uses driver SQL Anywhere 12)

Re: IA 11 have an ODBC problem?
You are welcome.
However this is very odd and I hope you note it and consider looking into it further.
I am getting another error in IA11 that I did not get in IA10 in a section of code that I haven't changed.
Makes me wonder if IA11 has some changes that is causing unpredictable results in some circumstances.
