When I create an installer using the GUI and check off Application Runtimes, the GUI automatically copies the proper MIA script files to the Project Directory.
Since InstallAware occasionally changes these scripts for different builds of IA (we are on 2012) there's no reason to check these files into source control under the project directory.
Why doesn't MIABUILD check a projects Application Runtime requirements and copy the required scripts accordingly before trying to build the project? It should!
Thanks,
Chris
miabuild.exe should handle Application Runtime files
Re: miabuild.exe should handle Application Runtime files
Chris,
InstallAware copies these script files to your project folder when you select the runtime.
This is because you might want to make changes to the runtime script without actually changing the default runtime script that IA uses.

Re: miabuild.exe should handle Application Runtime files
Exactly,
My thought is, if the runtime is checked, AND the files are NOT present in the user's project folder as expected, miabuild should populate the project folder with the required files prior to building and not fail out.

Re: miabuild.exe should handle Application Runtime files
I can probably come up with a dozen reasons for them to NOT do this, including, I forgot to copy the file when copying everything else or the file was accidentally deleted, or probably others. I would offer a counter-suggestion of maybe adding an additional setting to force InstallAware to always copy the runtime scripts at build or to just create a one-time local copy of the scripts that can then be modified. I could see this as something much more useful, since I may want to modify some of the runtimes, but not others.

Good point!
My original thought, flawed, was a result of being bombarded with unhappy folk due to a build failure based on my assumption that it would copy
. Pardon my venting in this thread. I just figured, DLL's are generated automatically with plug-ins or actions, why aren't required scripts...
