We recently upgraded from version 6 to 2012 and I am glad that "everything" stays the same, that's really good.
However, the build speed has changed dramatically. Our build in version 6 took about 1 minute, now we have to wait for 15 minutes to have the same result.
I noticed that gif and png files within our setup are causing this. Each gif/png (10-15KB) takes 5 seconds and we have a lot of them. Reducing of compression strength does not change anything here.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Build speed in 2012
Re: Build speed in 2012
Btw. if we set compression level to max, our setup has 1 MB more than the one from IA6. Does not hurt too much, but strange.compression strength does not change anything here.

Re: Build speed in 2012
Dear User,
It is quite strange ... I use Ia 2012 too, building projects that have large file compressed and works fine.
I do not know .... also because you said that by reducing compression strength does not change anything.
If you do not use compression, does the same?

Re: Build speed in 2012
Hi,
i "used" InstallAware also now ... and it seems it is what i am looking for.
But the speed is very bad - it is so bad that i think it must be a bug or a missig thing or so.
I tried to repacke a setup because this setup has problems with 64 bit. So i setuo a VM-Ware Virtual XP Comuter on my laptop (Intel I5 4GB RAM)
The first step went as expected. (Setup Capture - about 5 Minutes)
After that i installed InstallAware and tried to make a single SETUP-File. First try was all default.
After 23 hours i gave up. No result. I changed Compression. Another 10 hours later i tried my laptop
not the Virtual Maschine.
It took about 30 minutes to find out that a file was missing. Debugging or somethink like this is impossible.
(1.5 GB files ... mainly small sample .vb .htm files)
Whats wrong with that. I realy dont believe that a programm with a couple of years expeariance is so slow.
Do i make something wrong? Are there any hints?

Re: Build speed in 2012
Exclude the ia compiler and the projects from the antivirus engine. This made a huge difference in my case...
I currently run ms security essentials...

Yes it could be possible that the antivirus engine is causing this.
