Slow copying/compressing .ico files.

Post by rlichtefeld »

I have a folder on my development system that contains some .ico files that can be using on a toolbar in my app.

When creating the install, the build process is very slow copying these .ico files in the system. It takes about 5 seconds per file, and they are only 2KB each.

This is the line in the install that I'm using:

Code: Select all

Install Files T:\DATADIAR\TOOLBAR\*.* to $TARGETDIR$\ToolBar
The T drive contains other files that copy quite quickly. It is only this folder, and it only contains .ico files.

Is this the correct way to include them, or is there a better way?

Thanks.

Dear Rob,

Yes, what you are doing seems to be correct.

Honestly, I never used to include in my setups projects ico files as you in yours.

Let me check with my test machine what happens.

I think it may have been something on my side. I moved where the .ico files were located and they seem to copy more quickly, but still not as quick as some other small files. Since there are over 400 of these, it does take some time.

I can live with the amount of time it takes now, but just wondering.

Does IA examine the ico files? And, do anything with that info?

Dear Rob,

Unfortunately I was unable to find enough time to do a test with it.
I will try next week.

I'm happy that you partially solved ... for what I know IA doesn't examine the ico files ... probably the compression routines (I'm just supposing) :?:
Anyway it is strage.
