few beginner questions

Post by Jerzy »

Hi,
1. I've created new setup project in VS2012, the solution contains lot of projects, if i try tu build these setup i get:
Copied file <path to primary output file>.exe
Error during build: Unable to compile MSI action install assembly. I found similar error in this forum but exe file shoud never be installed to GAC?
2. The VS add-in generates both dependencies net4 and NET4 client profile, is there possibility to avoid them in VS, ofcourse i can remove theses dependencies in IA designer but have to remove all MSI 'Include script ... *client_x86' commands manually.
3. Is there possibility to change the destination from GAC to $TRGETDIR$ at once, i have more then 40 assemblies and have to change one by one. Selecting more than one assembly changes only the first one. In IA is worse, each change completly resets the assemblies listbox and you shoud again change the columns width (assemblies names ar long and generally starting with the same prefixes - vendor name) find the next one to change (no sorting on columns)?

Dear Jerzy,
2. The VS add-in generates both dependencies net4 and NET4 client profile, is there possibility to avoid them in VS, ofcourse i can remove theses dependencies in IA designer but have to remove all MSI 'Include script ... *client_x86' commands manually.
In IA design view you can remove runtime inclusion simply deselecting these runtimes from InstallAware Runtime view.
The Visual Studio Add-in doesn't come with all the project customization available with InstallAware IDE and runtimes dependencies, are actually automatically added to IA project when created using the VS Add-in.
1. I've created new setup project in VS2012, the solution contains lot of projects, if i try tu build these setup i get:
Copied file <path to primary output file>.exe
Error during build: Unable to compile MSI action install assembly. I found similar error in this forum but exe file shoud never be installed to GAC?
I suppose that this can be solved by searching the problematic Install Assembly line in your script (IA MSI code view) .
Once found, you can comment-out that code line ( or more) to test if this is causing the error.
When you figure it out, if it is an Install Assembly to a custom path command, just replace it with an Install Files command (which is equivalent with respect to non-GAC installation of assemblies).
I'm sorry, but actually that is not possible.

Hope this helps you.
