Hi,
i've the following scenario:
During the first installation of my product the user can select a custom folder to install some Word templates. For example: C:\ProgramData\MyProduct\Templates.
This path is saved in a variable which is called $TEMPLATEDIR$. I've set the option "Remeber value when restarting setup" for this variable.
Now, it should be possible that the user can change this path in maintenance mode of InstallAware. My problem is, when i enter an new path and assign this value to the variable $TEMPLATEDIR$ during the maintenance mode and click on "install" the setup will not install the word files in the new directory, but in the old directory.
Has anyone some ideas to solve this problem?

Re: Can't change install paths in maintenance mode
Dear User,
can you try to post more details on how you handle this variable with your project?
Much more better will be if you can post a very sample project that replicates the issue.
Which InstallAware version are you using?

Re: Can't change install paths in maintenance mode
Dear User,
I found why this happens with your package.
Actually, you are trying to modify (during repair - maintenance mode) the target path of an already installed component of your package.
When the MSI executes the above operation ( ... with Apply Install" call), it refers to the MSI database flow generated and stored by the first installation.
So, even if you use a complete different path with Install Files command, the MSI engine will ignore it and it will use the one stored during the first install.
If you are using an InstallAware version 10 or later, you can easily have a workaround for this.
Use NATIVE ENGINE switch to execute that particular files installation out of the MSI database.
Example:
As InstallAware Clipboard Data:
Using the above technique, it is not necessary to specify that the files have to be stored as permanent.
Due the fact that using NATIVE ENGINE, the files are not part of the MSI database anymore and then, will be not removed (automatically) by the uninstall.
Hope this helps you.
