Hi, I'm looking for a way to determine from within my application whether any updates are available, then respond accordingly.
Specifically, I want to:
1) check for updates using a menu command from within my application (e.g., setup /isupdateavailable)
2) Have the setup program return a code indicating whether a new update exists
3) Inform the user of the results (ie. No Updates Available or Updates Available! Install?)
4) if the user elects to install the updates
a) relaunch the setup with a "/updates" parameter
b) close my application so setup can install the update properly.
Does anybody know if this can be done by adding code to the updates script?

Re: Check for Updates from within program to be updated
Dear John,
yes, I believe can be done with some customized coding in your script.
You can launch your setup package in update mode using a simple execute program call from your application and passing the required parameter for it (for example: setup.exe /checkforupdate).
With InstallAware you can use the "Terminate with Exit Code" command in your script, to return a specific code (example: 200 if an update is available), that can be reconized by your app.
From your script you can use "Terminate Program" to close your application, if the user decides to proceed with the update.
Obviously, you must handle the passed switch parameter to the setup package in your script(for example: setup.exe /checkforupdate, setup.exe /doupdate), in order to correctly execute each custom task.
Hope this helps you.
