Dotnet plugins and VS 2012.

Post by bokkie »

All, this is a little off topic but it might be of use to some. I installed VS2012 and I ran into a problem where some projects failed to compile because of resource file generation errors. There were many possible solutions and I tried most of them. The one that solved my VS2012 problem is in the screenshot. Essentially, you create a system environment variable as it illustrates. Why do I mention this? I had a form in my plugin which could not compile in VS2012 but did compile in VS2008. I'll let you do your own research on the environment variable but so far I can't detect any side effects of using it. The strange thing is that I had the same compilation failure on my laptop as I got on a clean OS installation on my iMac using Apple's BootCamp but not every VS2012 user experienced the same problem. It's unlikely Microsoft are going to patch it anytime soon. If anyone does plugin development using VS2012 then this environment variable solution might get you up and running on VS2012, especially if you need to use the 4.0+ frameworks, about which, Francesco might have something to say about another time.
