Installaware web updates

Post by kfurnes »

Hi,

i'm trying to set up a test to distribute applications using the web updates.

I've got my sample to work but I have 2 questions:

1. If my application is running when the update is run, nothing happens before restarting the application. Is there a way to signal the user or force a restart of the application?
2. On the schecule task, at best i can set up a check for updates once a day. How can i set up update checks every hour ?

Dear Kfurnes,

#1 - the easiest way is to inform the user of the availability of the update and advising with a Message Box, to close the running application before to proceed. Obviously, you have to place any customized dialog or message box, within the "Update" script of your package.

If you want to force the application to close via script, you should use the "terminate process" command or a call to TaskKill command.
Please have a look at the following topic where another user has discussed the same argument.

#2- Currently it is not possible to set update checks on every hour ( ... honestly, I do not follow the sense of doing it).
