This is IA 17, BTW.
This was the message I got from running a Patch, for the first time. I searched the forum and I think this might hold a clue as to what is wrong:
http://forums.installaware.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5373
This implies that Patch doesn't work if the base installer exe has a password. I removed the password, rebuilt and then reran the patch. That still failed, but for other reasons raised in a separate entry.
Is there still a limitation that prevents installers with a password from being patched? The forum entry referenced was made in Jan 2010. Surely nearly 4 years is time to resolve a major problem like this (if it is indeed a problem). I noticed that IA never responded to the author's last question, so I don't know what the final word was at that time.
I was supplying the password as '/p=<pswd>' in my build script, with '/b=3'
Hoping for some good news.
John

Re: Patch: No compatible base packages found for upgrade pac
Dear John,
it doesn't exist any limitation that prevents installers with a password from being patched.
As I said with my reply to your other topic, I suppose you are not following the correct steps required to create a patch.
This argument has been widely discussed with the forum, the following topic summarize most of these.

Hope this helps you.
