Problem building patches

Postby huevo » Mon Jul 23, 2007 6:36 pm

I'm consistently getting the following message while building patches (as the last line after everything has been built):

Error during build: No compatible base packages found for upgrade package

I've tried adjusting with the Product/Revision/Upgrade codes and version numbers as best as I know how. I'm trying to patch a project built as Web Deployed. I'm using the Trial version to ensure that I can do what I need before I buy--the 7.0 Trial isn't limited, is it?

Any ideas?

I had a hard time getting in touch with InstallAware, and when I did they couldn't answer my question, but I was able to solve this one myself through some horrifically painful and repetitive debugging, leading to an astonishingly simple result.

It turns out that this problem can be solved by removing the Setup Password (aka the 256-bit Encryption Key). That's it. With the password I get the error, even in the very simplest scenario; without it everything seems to be fine.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. As the IDE attempts to extract the old version files, it fails when a password is required.

But isn't this something an error message or the building log should tell?
Would certainly save some headache for someone who does that for the first time :)

Thank you.
Maybe it would also make sense to require to type the password into a dialog and then continue towards a successful patch.

I am getting this error message and i dont have a password enabled. I can build a compressed package fine. But a patch build does not work. Is there anything else that i can check??
