Determining type of Installation - Web Install

Post by asparagusx »

Hello

Is there a way of knowing that the installation is actuallly being run as a download from a web-site, rather than simply a Web Install being run from a network share or CD. I need to know this to allow the installation to download some additional files from the location of where the web-install originated. Cluctching at straws here.

Hi, Anton!

I've got an idea about your problem. What if you check for the files in the folder where you EXE file is locted for the Web Media Blocks? If they are present then it's a local install, or from the network. If not, then it's a "download" situation.

Hope this helps!

That is a very good suggestion, however, when it is a web download, the EXE seems to be copied to a temp folder - which variable can I check for the original location of the file. $SFXPATH$ and $EXEPATH$/$EXEDIR$ contains the 'local' temp path. I am trying to get the URL (if any) from where the install was downloaded (at runtime).

Please check the list of pre-defined variables for extensive startup variables that indicate where your setup is running from, whether it is a web install or another install, etc.

However, I don't think you can detect the download URL using this method, as even with a web build, the install is first downloaded locally - and that local location will be what you get.

Note that you can use multiple download URLs and variables in your Web Media Block commands - that might help too :)

Which Runtime Variable indicates the type of installation? I have looked at the pre-defined variables and could not determine this. There does appear to be a compiler variable - BUILDMODE that contains the type of installation at build time.

Thanks

Assign the compiler variable to a runtime variable or use it as a literal value.
